Where are we?
To understand our area, is to understand a little about distances between recognizable cities vs smaller lesser-known villages in our region.
From Paris (Charles De Gaulle airport) to our village Quincerot (Yonne), it takes about 2.5 hours to drive. We are about 15 minutes from the nearest Champagne village to our east and about 25 minutes to the first winery just outside Chablis (Chardonnay wine) to our west. This map provides some scale between Paris to the northwest and either Reims by 2 hours to the north or Dijon & Beaune 2 hours to the south.
If the above wasn’t enough, here’s a deep dive…
In 2015, France consolidated its administrative regions by increasing the number of departments for each new regional area. Our itinerary focuses on the northern Burgundy region in the department Yonne and the southern Champagne region in the department Aube.
For some additional background and a better understanding of the two regions, what was once called the Bourgogne and composed of four departments is now referred to as Bourgogne Franche ComtĂ© and is composed of eight departments. However, the three departments in GOLD are still what’s considered as the Burgundy Wine Region.
Yup – just like in Burgundy, the Champagne-Ardenne region also grew. They went from five departments to ten and are now referred to as Grande Est. Note however that only the 5 departments in green is considered the Champagne region.
